ISSIA - Institute of Studies On The Intelligent Systems for Automation
Address: Via De Marini, 6
City: 16149, Genova
Country: Italy
The Istituto Automazione Navale (IAN) is one of the hundreds of research centres constituting Italy's National Research Council (CNR), a publicly funded organization whose primary objective is to further knowledge in a wide range of disciplines. IAN has conducted research into marine-maritime subjects for over twenty years and has recently confirmed its prominent role in several national and international projects in the field of scientific engineering, many of which are funded by the European Commission.
The focus has traditionally been on improving efficiency and safety in navigation and on developing systems for the protection of coasts and the marine environment. More recently, following a natural evolution in its objectives, IAN's research scope has expanded to encompass the fields of data processing and marine robotics and to pursue the development of advanced technologies that can find an application in industry and in marine sciences.
IAN has a permanent staff of 12 research scientists and 14 technical/administrative people. It is one of the thirteen research centres encompassed within CNR’s Genoa Research Area, a logistic-organizational body with the role of rationalizing services and scientific equipment.
