ITIA - Istituto di Tecnologie Industriali e Automazione - (Institute of Industrial Technologies and Automation) was founded in 1963 as "The Machine Tools as Centre" (CEMU) by CNR and the Italian Association for Research Development of Machine Tools. Subsequently, it became a CNR Laboratory and then an Institute (IMU), assuming its current name in 1992.
ITIA's research activities - performed within National and International "consortia" of Companies, Research Centres, Universities - cover different time horizons, content and final "users" as described below:
Short term: innovative design and update of machinery systems, on contracts from Industry;
Medium term: innovation activities for Industry, within research projects, at National and International level, with Companies and Research Institutes (Brite-Euram, Eureka, SPI);
Long term: strategic research activities in cooperation with Universities and support from forefront Companies, within fundamental research projects of industrial interest (Brite-Euram, IMS).
