The Australian Robotics and Automation Association Inc. (formerly the Australian Robot Association Inc.) is a professional society concerned with robots, their applications and their implications, and related automation technologies. The Association represents Australia and New Zealand in the International Federation of Robotics.

The Australian Robot Association was founded in 1981 and became incorporated in the A.C.T. in 1983. It publishes a quarterly Newsletter (distributed free to all members) and organises conferences, competitions and overseas study tours. Chapter activities take place from time to time in Australian capital cities and in New Zealand.

ARAA's objectives are:
1. To promote, by meetings, conferences, publications, broadcasts and other means, knowledge and understanding of robotics and automation and their likely business, economic, social and other implications.
2. To encourage, by all possible means, research and development designed to benefit industry and society by advancing the capabilities of robotics and automation systems.
3. To forecast the future effects of robotics and automation upon Australian industry and society, and to promote the use of robotics and automation for the common benefit.
4. To promote and encourage co-operation with similar overseas associations and with other organisations interested in robotics and automation or their implications.
5. To promote, improve and encourage the training of persons, to the highest possible level, in robotics, automation and related disciplines.
6. To promote and extend the interests and influence of all or any Australian organisations concerned with robotics and automation.
7. To do all such other things as may seem to the Association incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives or any of them.

The Association organises also conferences and other meetings, publishes a quarterly Newsletter and books, collects statistics about robots in Australia and New Zealand, and serves as a focal point for Australian industry and researchers concerned with robotics and automation.

2000 activities of the Association include the Australian Conference on Robotics and Automation in Melbourne from 30th of August to the 1st of September, and the 11th AUTOMATE AUSTRALIA show in the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 10th-12th of October.

Membership of the Association is available to interested organisations and individuals. Use our membership application form to join. ARAA's organisational members include leading robot suppliers, users and consultants.
